They’re flax seeds. In developing our Multigrain Pancake Mix we wanted to create a healthful and delicious product. In addition to the eight whole grains we added flax seed for their added benefits (See the benefits of whole flax seed). Although we are well aware of the advantages of ground flax seed we decided to include whole flax seed (the bug looking stuff) because of its longer shelf life.
According to the Flax Council of Canada, “You can store clean, dry, good quality flax seed at room temperature for up to year.” As opposed to the ground flax seed, George Mateljan Foundation on World’s Healthiest Foods.com states that “…once flaxseeds are ground, they are much more prone to oxidation and spoilage.” Therefore, ground flax seed has a shelf life up to 3 months when stored in a refrigerator according the Cleveland Clinic. For that reason we opted to chose the whole flax seed. Enjoy all those flax seed bugs.
Great idea! Post when it will be in Orange County and where I will try it.
Flax seeds are VERY healthy – looks like a great product.
Thanks for sharing,
Tom Bailey
Thanks Tom. You can actually get the mix at select Costco locations around Orange County, probably starting around this weekend. They're back for a limited time so be sure to try them 🙂
why is this limited time only and only at certain costco's? I live in Seattle, HOME to Costco and they do not carry it anymore. WHY WHY WHY???? help!

We purchased one bag of your pancake mix and just fell in love with it. We live over 90 miles away from the nearest COSTCO only to find out they no longer carry it. Will it ever return to the Tucson area? If so I will make sure I buy several bags.
Thank you, Liz
I purchased 3 bags a while back. I LOVE THEM!
Costco had them here in Oregon for maybe a couple weeks, then they were gone! RATS!
I can't buy them anywhere in ORegon
Don
Kathryn and Don,
CO Pancake Mix fans in the North West, good news! Costco reordered the mix and it should be back on shelves for a limited time at your local Costco now. It's usually there for about 3 to 4 months or while supplies last. Be sure to stock up.
Liz,
Thanks so much for your kind words. At this time they are out of rotation. If you are so inclined, next time you are in Costco you can fill out a comment card and request "Coach's Oats Pancake Mix", we know the buyers do read those cards. In the meantime you can purchase the mix directly from us over the phone 714.692.6885. Please let me know if you have any further questions or comments.
Any chance they'll come to Costco in Canada? We were recently in California and bought some mix and we loved it!
I was visiting family in Denver and had a chance to try them, and fell in love! I took two bags home with me to Reno. Recently I had my mother-in-law bring some back from a trip to Colorado Springs. But, alas, I am out again! Any chance the Reno, NV, Costco will start stocking them?? I will definitely try the comment card route…
Unfortunately, at this time our pancake mix is not available in the Reno area. However, you can still purchase the mix directly from us over the phone 714.692.6885. The comment card definitely helps, thanks so much for being a fan!
Hi, my boys (4 & 6) love your pancake mix. My mom was surprised her grandsons were eating flax seed/grain pancakes so easily! She went looking for them this past weekend in MI so find out they no longer carry them. I will be calling soon to order them a bag or two. One question though, why not sell them online on your website? Thanks! SN
SN,
That's so great to hear! We have heard from many customers that kids love the pancakes. The mix is not online, because at the moment it's not always available. We are working at expanding the availability, thank you for being patient with us. Please let me know if you have any further questions or comments. Look forward to speaking with you.
I tried it from our Costco in Northern VA – an am sad it is gone. Anyone know where I can find it in the Washington DC metro area – or directly?
NS
I can't find them in NOVA either. I will have to call to order them. My kids need them before swim team!
I went to Costco yesterday and was very upset to find that they no longer carry your pancake mix. I love it, my kids love it and we want more. Please let me know if any Costco in the greater PHX area will have your product. Thank you.
Unfortunately, at this time there are no other retailers in the Arizona region that have our mix. We are working at expanding our distribution, thank you for being patient with us. If you are so inclined, you can fill out a comment card at the service desk. I know the buyers do read those cards, so that can help. Thanks for being fans!
Why is it that our local Costco sells the Coach's oatmeal; but, not the pancake mix? Isn't it just as easy to have both shipped to the store? Our family and friends loved the pancake mix when we first got it in January and have not seen it on the shelves since then. I have been told that it is cost prohibitive to have it shipped when ordering direct – however, I don't understand why it is not available in local grocery stores…..why is it so hard to get when there seems to be such a high demand?
Best pancake mix our family has ever tasted, hands down!! We went back to the Bend, Oregon Costco to find more but alas, they were out. Coaches Oats could be the biggest pancake mix seller in the US if it was distributed to all areas of the country. Can we help?
Where can I purchase your pancake mix?? I used to get it at Costco, but they don't seem to carry it anymore.
Residing in Los Angeles County
Looking for retail outlet in Southern Oregon or Northern California. Costco no longer stock it as of my last visit this week.
I purchased a bag but the receipe make too many pancakes for just 2 people. How can I make a smaller batch and still have them come out right?
We don't have an exact recipe for making a smaller batch of the pancakes. I usually make the full batch and save the rest for snacks later in the day; straight from the fridge or reheated in the toaster.
You could possibly try just making the mix w/water to make it smaller. The recipe calls for a whole egg, so to decrease the recipe you would need to split the egg or maybe use an egg substitute. If you find something that works best for you, we would love to hear.
i live in rainier oregon an hr from portland oregon went to the costco airport and i couldnt find coach oatmeal we love and eat for breakfast every morning were can i find it again we got in las vegas na costco but cant find in oregon
I've recently discovered Coach's Oats pancake mix and what a wonderful healthy product it is! Unfortunately, there is one major problem. It can't really be considered heart healthy because enormus amout of sodium in it! According to information on the package 1.5-2 pancakes contain about 1/3 of daily amount of sodium and for really heart healty diet it is equivalent to 1/2 of daily amount. I assume that most of the sodium comes from the baking powder and salt. Substituting sodium based baking powder with calcium based can potentially result in much healthier product
I just spoke with costco and they said we need to request the buyer to start ordering it for Seattle.
