Spring time is the peak season for fresh berries. Berries make a delicious and healthful addition to any bowl of oatmeal. While reading the Eat This Not That: Supermarket Survival Guide we found a few tips for storing and selecting berries at their peak. Here are a few:
Blueberries: Also known as the “super” berry, this baby packs more antioxidants than most wild berries. For optimum storage, place unwashed blueberries in the refrigerator for 5 to 7 days. Peak blueberry season is from June to August.
Raspberries: Paired with oatmeal this berry can add to your source of daily fiber. Store in the refrigerator unwashed and covered with a moist paper towel for 2 to 3 days. Raspberries are best picked between May and November.
Strawberries: One of the most popular berries, strawberries are great source for vitamin C. Unwashed strawberries placed on a paper towel will be best 2 to 3 days in refrigerator. Visit your local strawberry stands from June to August to get the berries at the height of their season.
