Everyone has heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but the type of breakfast is what is important. In an interview with CNN Kathrine Tallmadge, national spokeswoman for The American Dietetic Association, states that sugary cereals, fruit smoothies and bagels don’t give you the lasting energy to get you through your day.
A bowl full of oats, milk and healthy fats like nuts are your ticket to keep you going through the day, Tallmadge said. Oats are low on the glycemic index and therefore do not raise your blood sugar levels rapidly. They maintain a steady flow of energy and keep you full longer, preventing unwanted snacking.
