February is Heart Healthy Month. It’s no wonder that this month’s issue of “Better Homes and Gardens” has an article dedicated to helping you eat right, exercise and take care of your heart. Article author Doug Donaldson gives a list of healthy smart foods for your heart. Not surprisingly, oatmeal makes the list. Here are a few foods listed in the article:
· Oatmeal: Works wonders to lower cholesterol. Consuming 3 grams of soluble fiber per day from foods such as oatmeal may reduce your risk of heart disease (Coach’s Oats contain 2.3 grams of soluble fiber per serving!)
· Berries: Very good source for antioxidants that can help regulate blood pressure and raise your good cholesterol.
· Almonds: The omega-3s packed in these nuts can help you lower your cholesterol.
*Coach’s tip – Top your oatmeal with berries or sliced almonds and you will be eating smart for your healthy heart.
Other heart- healthy foods:
· Grape Juice
· Canola Oil
· Salmon
· Spinach
